Box Score

St. Catharine, Ky. – After dropping their first three games of the season, the Patriot women’s soccer team (1-3) scored their first victory of the season in a 5-0 rout of Cincinnati Christian (Ohio).

Bethany Massey (Oldham County, Ky.) tallied her first career multi-goal game as a Patriot. The freshman netted the first two goals of the season in the 11th and 56th minutes. Vannah Moreland (Marietta, Ga.), Courtney Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) and Sara Herbert (Louisville, Ky.) each added one apiece to make the final score 5-0.

Massey got the scoring started in the 11th minute when Rachel Palazzo (Marietta, Ga.) sent a corner kick into the box right in front of the net and Massey was right there to fire it in the back of the net and give her team a 1-0 lead. The Patriots had other opportunities to score in the half, but both defenses stood tall as the 1-0 lead held at intermission.

St. Catharine doubled their lead in the 48th minute thanks to a goal from Vannah Moreland. Moreland was able to control a loose ball in the box and fire it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Patriots added to their lead 12 minutes later in the 56th minute when Sara Herbert found Massey who was able to control the ball and fire it into the back of the net.

St. Catharine continued to add to their lead in the 73rd when this time it was Courtney Anderson who added her named to the scoring column. After the ball bounced around in the front of the net, Anderson was right there and fired the ball into the open net.

The final goal for the Patriots came in the 87th minute when Sara Herbert netted her first goal of the season. Herbert weaved her way past a pair of defenders and sent the shot into the back of the net to give the Patriots a 5-0 win.

As a team the Patriots tallied 25 shots with 15 of those coming on frame. Whereas the Patriots’ suffocating defense allowed only five shots and only one on goal. Jerrica Kidd (Stanford, Ky.) played all 90 minutes in goal while recording one save and the shutout.

The Patriots will return to action this Saturday when they open Mid-South Conference play against Shawnee State (Ohio) in Portsmouth, Ohio.
