Late goal lifts Campbellsville over SCC

St. Catharine, Ky. – After being scoreless for 79 minutes, Campbellsville (Ky.) scored with ten minutes remaining to come away with a 1-0 victory over the Patriot men’s soccer team (2-4, 0-2 MSC).

Both teams had their chances throughout the night but never could find the goal to give their team the lead. Things changed in the 79th minute when the Tigers (5-2, 2-0 MSC) scored the goal that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.

The chances for the Patriots came right from the first whistle. In the third minute Max Bristow (Exeter, England) fired a shot on goal, but the Tigers’ goalkeeper was right there for the save.

Another chance came off the foot of Harry Kirwan (Lincoln, England), but once again the goalkeeper was right there for the save. The match remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play.

It would remain 0-0 until the 79th minute when things changed. The Tigers were granted a corner kick and sent the ball into the box and after it bounced around, it made its way to Yona Lobulu who fired the ball into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.

The final scoring chance for the Patriots came off the foot of Divine Shanganya (Lincolnshire, England), but the goal keeper was right there for one of his six saves.

The Patriots had their chances throughout the match as they tallied 13 shots with six of those on frame, but never could find the back of the net. The Tigers on the other hand, recorded 11 shots with only two on goal.

St. Catharine will take a break from Mid-South Conference play this Saturday when they host Missouri Baptist University at 12 p.m. ET.
