Men's Bowling opens 2015-16 season

St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine College men’s bowling team has gotten off to a quick start to open the 2014-16 slate.

The “Alley Pats” have completed the first two tournaments of their season. They first competed in the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes in Campbellsville, Ky.

Leading the way for the Patriots at the Green River Classic was Bryan Gammons (Louisville, Ky.). Gammons appeared in all five games for the Patriots finishing with 883 total pins. Gammons best game came in the third frame when he posted a 214.

Mark Browning (Louisville, Ky.) and Shawn West (Louisville, Ky.) were also in action in Campbellsville. Browning and West finished with just one pin separating the two. Browning finished with 839 pins and West finished with 838 total pins.

Freshman, Tim Shepherd (Simpsonville, Ky.) finished with 783 total pins. Shepherd’s best game came in his third frame where he finished with a 167. Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.) appeared in four games for the Patriots finishing with 634 pins. Aaron Ybarbo (Spring, Texas) was the final bowler in action. Ybarbo bowled in just one game finishing with 126 total pins.

As a team the Patriots posted an 11th place finish at the Green River Classic. They finished with 4,103 total pins over the first five games. Then in the baker games they finished with 1,781 pins to finish with a team score of 5,884.

In their second tournament of the year the Patriots traveled to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic. The tournament hosted 20 teams ranking from NAIA to NCAA and 184 individual bowlers.

This time leading the charge was Shawn West. West improved from his showing in Green River Classic to finish with 877 pins. West posted two games over 200, including a 221 in his third frame.

Michael Vuick also had a strong showing in Bowling Green. Vuick turned in an 835 and bowled a season-high 222 in his first frame. Mark Browning and Tim Shepherd were also in action at the tournament. The two posted 823 and 734 total pins, respectively.

Bryan Gammons and Aaron Ybarbo were the final two Patriots in action at the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic. Gammons compiled 665 pins in four games and Ybarbo posted 132 total pins in one game.

St. Catharine as a team improved from their first tournament on the season. The finished with 4,116 total pins and they followed that up with 1,907 pins in the baker games.

The “Alley Pats” will return to action on November 7th and 8th when they travel to Marietta, Ga. to compete in the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic.
