Box Score

Bardstown, Ky. -- Senior, Michael Hardin won the St. Catharine College Fall Tournament today on the first sudden death playoff hole at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood in Bardstown, Ky.

The Bloomfield, Ky. native parred the first hole of the sudden death playoff to come away with the win. The win is the first in the Patriot career of Michael Hardin. After 36 holes, there was a three-way tie for first place forcing a sudden death playoff.

The trio would move to the first tee – a 440 yard par-4. Hardin drilled his drive down the middle of the fairway and put his second shot just to the left of the green leaving him a manageable chip to the hole. Hardin took his third shot and watched as his ball nearly rolled it in the hole, but left it within one foot of the hole. He would finish it out by rolling in his par putt to secure the win.

Hardin shot a 75 in his first round, but he battled back with a 73 in the second round to finish with a two-day total of 148. Matthey McCurry of Asbury (Ky.) and Tyler Smith of Pikeville (Ky.) joined Hardin in the sudden death playoff hole.

Hardin led the Patriots first team to a second place finish in the tournament. They entered the second round four strokes behind second place, but they made up the ground and then some. They finished with a 36 hole total of 620 (308-312), seven strokes ahead of both Asbury and Fisk (Tenn.). Pikeville won the tournament with a two-round total of 604 (294-310)

Will Broady (Greensburg, Ky.) finished the tournament in a tie for ninth place. After shooting a 73 in the first round and entering the second round two shots back, Broady struggled in the second round shooting an 84.

His teammate, Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) improved in the final 18 holes. Ballard struggled in the first round finishing with an 82, but in the second round came out firing with a 4-over 76. Ballard’s 158 was good enough for a 13th place finish.

Brandon Campbell (Louisville, Ky.) and Michael Vuick (Taylorsville, Ky.) rounded out the Patriots first team. The duo finished the tournament in 16th and 21st place, respectively. Campbell finished with a two day total of 160 (81-79), while Vuick shot a 163 (79-84).

The St. Catharine second team was also in action at Maywood. They were led by Gran Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) who posted a two-day total of 161 (82-79). His 161 earned him a finish in a tie for 17th place.

Austin Mitchell (Shepherdsville, Ky.) and Shaun Gordon (Radcliff, Ky.) were up next for the Patriots second team. Mitchell finished with a two-round total of 166 (78-88) and Gordon posted a 167 (78-89). Their teammate, Logan Medley (Lebanon, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Patriots. Medley finished the first round with an 84 and posted an 84 in the second.

St. Catharine will have one more tournament before they wrap up their fall schedule. They will return to the course on October 26 and 27 when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Mid-South Conference Fall Roundup at Bowling Green Country Club – the same site that will host the Mid-South Conference Championship in the spring 2016.
