Patriots Drop Season Opener at Talladega

Box Score

Talladega, Ala. -- In the season opener the St. Catharine women traveled to Alabama to take on Talladega College on Halloween night. And, in Coach Megan Dzikas’ first game for St. Catharine, the Patriots were recipients of more tricks than treats as they dropped a 79-64 decision to the Tornadoes.

The Patriots trailed by just one point after three quarters but saw Talladega (1-0) reel off a 28-14 run in the final frame for the 15 point victory. St. Catharine outshot Talladega 46 percent to 38 percent but lost the rebounding battle 42-32. And 13 of those Tornado boards were of the offensive variety as they benefited from second chance points against the smaller Patriots.

Four Patriots scored 10 points each to lead the Patriots as Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.), Miranda Wilson (Corbin, Ky.), Patrice Tonge (Lebanon, Ky.) and Sasha Ruiz-Lopez (Ft. Myers, Fla.) tallied that figure.

Much of the winning margin for Talladega came at the foul line where the Tornadoes hit 24 of 30. The patriots were 11-20 from the charity stripe.

The Patriots will return to action on Monday when they travel back down south to take on Milligan (Tenn.).
