Patriot Volleyball Falls in MSC Semis

Box Score

Bowling Green, Ky. – The Patriot volleyball team saw their season come to an end at the hands of Georgetown (Ky.) in the Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals. In their first two meetings earlier in the season, the Tigers defeated the Patriots both times. It was déjá vu for the Patriots after the Tigers finished off a 3-0 sweep.

The loss completes the season for head coach, Lauryn Hyman. Hyman was tabbed as the head coach shortly before the season began and her team concluded the season with a 27-12 record overall and a 10-6 mark in the Mid-South.

It was a quiet game for the Patriot offense against the Tigers. As a team the Patriots hit well below their average hitting .164 for the match. The Tigers on the other had finished with a .317 hitting clip.

In the first set the Patriots held a 22-20 lead, but the Tigers answered with a 5-0 run to win the set 25-23. The second set was a battle that went into extra points. St. Catharine held a comfortable lead in the set, but once again the Tigers battled back to win it 31-29. The Tigers closed the sweep out after winning the third set 25-11.

Hyman’s team had to deal with a rough schedule throughout the season as they face 13 teams that were either ranked or receiving votes. After starting out the season 0-3, the Patriots rattled off eight wins in a row. At one point in the season, Hyman’s team went on a stretch winning 10 of 11 matches.

The Patriots will now look to the offseason as they try and replace four seniors as they lose Jordan Strickland, Rebecca Just, Jodie Klein, and Cat Hall to graduation.
