Men's Soccer Season Comes to Inglorious End

Saturday, November 7 - The St. Catharine College Men's Soccer team traveled to the University of Rio Grande in Southeast Ohio today to play in the first round of the Mid South Conference Tournament. St. Catharine came into the tournament as the 7th seed to face #2 seed and NAIA sixth ranked Rio Grande Red Storm. After joining the NAIA in 2008 and serving a provisional year, is the first time ever for the team to compete in the MSC Tournament.

Rio Grande came out quickly, and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. SCC fought hard, but were no match on this day, as Rio Grande would run away with the game; winning 13-0 to end the Patriot's season. St. Catharine finishes the season with an overall record of 8-10-0, 8-9-0 in the regular season, and 1-6 in conference play. After an overall 6-11-0 season (1-5 in Mid South Conference play) in 2008, this year has been an improvement.

SCC Head Coach Paul Patton stated after the tournament game, "We have improved every year that I have been with the program at St. Catharine. Despite the score today, we were much more competitive during the season, and had opportunities to upset Campbellsville and several other teams. We lost 3 games by 1 goal, and if things had broken different a few times we might have won a couple more. I am excited about the future of this program as we have an excellent group of young players, and are always recruiting to add more."
