St. Catharine, Ky. – After getting a midweek victory over Brescia (Ky.), the St. Catharine baseball team was back in action today against Huntington (Ind.) when they began a three-game series at Edelen

The Foresters (2-5) had a tough time stopping the Patriot offense as they collected a season-high 14 hits off the Huntington pitchers. St. Catharine (13-6) scored six in the fourth, two in the fifth and a single run in the sixth en route to the 9-2 victory.

Senior right-hander, Daniel Lerma (Oxnard, Calif.) picked up the win on the mound moving to 2-3 on the season. Lerma allowed a pair of earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in eight innings of work. Alex Knowles (Huntington Beach, Calif.) pitched the ninth inning allowing one hit.

Lerma took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, but was broken up after a single with one out in the inning. He got some run support from his offense when they erupted for six runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fourth.

Nicco Lollio (Brownstown, Mich.) led off with a double and later scored on a double by Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, Ind.). Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, Ky.), Josh Wenning (Palmyra, Ind.) and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) all recorded an RBI single in the inning.

After the Foresters scored a run in the fifth, the Patriots answered with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Devine was back at it with a sac fly and an RBI in the inning. Then four batters later, Bohorquez collected an RBI after reaching on a bases loaded walk.

The Patriot offense added another run in the sixth inning, when once again Tyler Devine was back at it. Santiago Arce (Chula Vista, Calif.) got is started with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Kissel to set up Devine for the RBI single.

Huntington added another run in the seventh inning, but Lerma and Knowles closed the game out for the 9-2 win.

Arce led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Devine continued his hot streak with two hits and three RBI’s, while Alfredo Bohorquez added two RBI’s. Evan Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.), Drew Kissel and Josh Wenning all added two hits and an RBI in the win.

The Patriots and Foresters are back at it tomorrow at Edelen-Haydon Field for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
