Box Score

St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine baseball team secured the season sweep of Brescia (Ky.) when they defeated the Bearcats 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Edelen-Haydon Field.

The Patriots (27-13) scored two runs in the second and sixth innings while adding another run in the seventh to come away with the 5-1 win. The Bearcats (7-27) managed to get one unearned run in the sixth inning.

Junior right-hander, Hector Quinones (Barceloneta, PR) picked up his first win of the season on the mound. Quinones (1-2) pitched six innings allowing one unearned run on just one hit allowed.

The duo of Joseph Martin (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and Peyton Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) tossed the final three innings. Martin tossed two innings allowing one hit, while Johnson didn’t allow a hit in the ninth inning.

The Patriots got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. The first came off the bat of Nicco Lollio (Brownstown, Mich.) when he blasted the first pitch he saw over the right-field fence for a solo home run – his seventh home run of the season.

After the Lollio home run, Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, Ky.) singled, stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw by the catcher. The next batter up, Evan Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.) hit a sac fly scoring Devine.

Brescia scored a run in the sixth, but the Patriots came right back in the bottom half with two more runs. Cody Kollenberg (Peewee Valley, Ky.) pushed the first run across with an RBI double, then Reid Battles (Denton, Texas) scored the speedy Kollenberg with a bunt single.

St. Catharine capped the scoring off when they added a run in the seventh. Nicco Lollio led the inning off with a double, then three batters later, Chance Bodine (Bardstown, Ky.) reached on fielder’s choice scoring Lollio to make the final score 5-1.

Lollio led the way at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cody Kollenberg added a 2-for-4 day with an RBI and run scored. Tyler Devine and Hector Quinones both added two hits, while Devine scored a run. Reid Battles also collected a hit and an RBI.

The Patriots are back in action this weekend when they host Mid-South Conference fie Pikeville (Ky.) for a three-game series. The Bears currently sit atop the MSC standings with an 8-4 record, while St. Catharine sits in fifth place with a 6-6 conference mark.
