Box Score

St. Catharine, Ky. -- The St. Catharine baseball team ended their regular season on a high note on Sunday afternoon after defeating No. 24 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 9-6 at Edelen-Haydon Field.

With the game tied at 6-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots (32-19, 10-11 MSC) used a three run seventh to seal the win. In that inning, Nicco Lollio (Brownstown, Mich.) hit a two-run home run to cap off the three run seventh.

Freshman right-hander, Joseph Martin (Fort Thomas, Ky.) picked up the win in relief for the Patriots. Martin (4-1) entered the game with two on and two out in the fifth and allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Junior right-hander, Marvin Galarza (Arecibo, PR) started the game and was dealt with a no decision. Galarza tossed 4.2 innings and allowed four runs – two earned – on five hits. Galarza also fanned four in his work on the bump.

After neither team scored in the first two innings, the Blue Raiders (33-20, 13-8 MSC) scored single runs in the third and four innings to take a 2-0 lead. St. Catharine battled back in the fourth to tie the game up after scoring two runs on three hits.

Nicco Lollio led the inning off with a base knock and moved to second after a sac bunt by Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, Ky.). Then Evan Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.) ripped a double scoring Lollio and Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, DR) singled to score Smith and tie the game at 2-2.

Lindsey Wilson regained the lead with two runs in the fifth, but the Patriots came back with a run in the bottom half. Reid Battles (Denton, Texas) opened the inning with a single and three batters later, Hector Quinones (Barceloneta, PR) hit a sac fly to score Battles from third.

The visitors extended their lead to 5-3 in the sixth, but once again the Patriots battled back in the bottom half. Tyler Devine opened the inning with a single and Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, Ind.) reached on an error putting two on and none out.

After a strikeout and a wild pitch the runners advanced to second and third setting up Carlos Cespedes. Cespedes took the first pitch he saw and ripped it over the left field fence for three-run home run to give his team the 6-5 after six complete innings.

For the fifth straight inning Lindsey Wilson came back in the seventh and tied the game up at six. The pesky Patriots, however, wouldn’t quit as they came back with three runs in the seventh inning to take a 9-6 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Hector Quinones then hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but he misplayed the grounder and the ball rolled into left field scoring Bohorquez from second.

After the Patriots took the 7-6 lead, Nicco Lollio decided to add to the lead in a big way. Lollio blasted the first pitch he saw and sent it over the fence in right-center field for a two-run home run – his eighth of the year.

With a 9-6 lead heading to the eighth inning, St. Catharine skipper Luther Bramblett decided to bring in senior closer, Jake McCoy (Mesa, Ariz.) from the bullpen. McCoy picked up his seventh save of the season after striking out four in the final two innings to seal the 9-6 win.
