Soccer Patriots Swept at Georgetown

The Patriots traveled to Georgetown College Thursday for two Mid-South Conference matches against the Tigers. Both returned with setbacks as the women lost 4-0 and the men fell 3-1.

The women trailed just 1-0 at halftime but just five minutes into the second half the Tigers, 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the MSC, netted a goal to take a 2-0 lead. They scored again at the 60 minute mark and made the score 4-0 with 11 minutes to play in the game.

The Patriots, 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, had only two shots on goal in the shutout. Devin Gore had six saves in goal for St. Catharine.

In the men’s action the Tigers (2-9, 1-2) scored with 14 minutes left in the first half and took the 1-0 lead to the locker room. Just three minutes into the second half Georgetown made it 2-0 when Jordan Gregory followed in on an open net after Riley Williams kick hit the crossbar.

Patrick Williams scored on a penalty kick for the Patriots at the 55 minute mark to make the score 2-1 but the Tigers scored on a penalty kick of their own at 82 minutes to complete the scoring.

The loss gave the Patriots a 3-7-1 overall mark and a 1-3 conference slate.

Both teams are home Saturday against conference foe West Virginia Tech. The women play at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:00.
