Gravens and Benz tabbed First Team All-Conference

St. Catharine, Ky. -- Five members of the St. Catharine softball team took home either first or second team all-conference honors, conference officials announced at the Mid-South Conference Softball Banquet at the Bowling Green Country Club on Thursday.

Sophomore’s, Kelsey Gravens and Carly Benz each took home first team all-conference honors. Three other Patriots also took home second team all-conference honors that include: Tiffany Wickline, Brittany McKee and Miranda Whelan.

Catcher, Kelsey Gravens, a native of Mt. Washington, Ky. was named to the first team all-conference for the second consecutive year. Gravens started and played in all 52 games in her second season as a Patriot.

Gravens currently sits in a tie for seventh in the Mid-South with eight home runs. She ranks second on the team in batting average (.355), hits (55) and runs (37) while she is third on the team with a .399 slugging percentage.

For the first time in her career, outfielder Carly Benz took home first team all-conference honors. The Brooks, Ky. native joins her teammate, Gravens, as the only two Patriots to start and play in all 52 games.

Benz ranks in the top ten in three different categories in the Mid-South. She ranks third and leads the team with 19 swipes on the season while she sits fourth and ties the team lead with 14 doubles. She also ranks eighth in hits (55) and her .355 batting average leads the team.

Junior right-hander, Tiffany Wickline (Georgetown, Ky.) garnered second team all-conference honors for the third consecutive season. In the circle, Wickline started in 27 games and has a 12-11 record overall in 146.1 innings pitched with a 3.68 ERA.

Senior, Brittany McKee (Somerset, Ky.) was also selected as second team all-conference for the first time in her career. McKee hit .271 at the plate while blasting six home runs and nine doubles. She also drove in 33 runs and scored 23 times this season.

Junior, Miranda Whelan (Ramsey, Ind.) was selected to the second team in her first year as a Patriot. Whelan, who joined St. Catharine in the fall after transferring from Motlow State (Tenn.), hit .325 at the dish with four home runs, 16 RBI’s and 15 runs scored.

St. Catharine begins play in the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament tomorrow at noon ET when they take on Pikeville (Ky.) in the first round.
