Lady Patriots Go On A Six Game Winning Streak

The Lady Patriots headed to Danville, KY were they faced Centre College on Thursday, March 5, 2009. 

In game 1 of the double header action, Sophomore Amber Matteoli took the mound for yet another dominating pitching extravaganza.  Matteoli was hot as she throw 5 innings allowing 5 walks, 10 strike outs, and 1 hit away from a no hitter. That hit came in the 5th innning, third to the last batter of the game.  The Lady Patriots were victorious in the 9-0 shut out.

Matteoli wasn't the only thing that was hot, as the Lady Patriots bats were popping.  Junior Megan Cheuvront reached on an error and got hit by a pitch. Junior Casey Crouch went 3-4 with 2 double's and a RBI.  Matteoli went 3-3 with 2 RBI's.  Junior Mary Kate Hayes went 2-3 with a double and a RBI.  Junior Sharonda Mangan went 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI's.  Freshmen Gerina Steele, Jackie Schuler, Emily Bucklew, and Nicole Mills all reached on defensive errors in the 9-0 victory. 

In game 2, Mangan started on the mound, pitching 4 strike outs and 3 walks, 2 of which were intentional.  Mangan pitched very well and the defense made some tremendous plays keeping us in this ball game all 7 innings.  Freshman Katelin Mulloy finished the game in the 7th inning, going 3 up and 3 down, as the game ended 6-11 in the Lady Patriots favor.  

Crouch had a single, double, and 3 RBI's. Matteoli went 2-4 with a double and a walk. Sophomore Justine Paddock 3-4 with 2 homeruns, a triple and 4 RBI's. Hayes went 1-2 with 3 walks. Schluer got hit by pitch twice and had a walk.  Bucklew went 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI's. Freshman Kasie Prather went 1-3 with a walk. 

Head Coach Holly Smith's comments after the game: "I am proud of my girls today, I love how this team never gives up, they push to the end and never quit until the job is done. They really showed that the second game when they came alive in the 5th inning to put us back into the game.  I love our patience and our disipline at the plate.  We are on a 6 game winning streak and we are playing so well."
