Lady Patriots Fall Again On The Road

St.Catharine College Lady Patriots softball team, headed across the river to play Indiana University Southeast on March 11, 2009.

 

Sophomore Amber Matteoli started on the mound and IUS came out swinging the bats scoring 8 runs in the first 4 innings.  The Lady Patriots managed to put up 1 run in the 3rd inning and a couple in the 6th innning.   IUS put up 1 more run in the 6th inning off Freshman pitcher Katelin Mulloy. The Lady Patriots only managed to put up 1 more run on in the top of the 7th inning, making the final score 4-9 IUS. 

 

Junior Megan Cheuvront had a HBP and a stolen base.  Sophomore Justine Paddock got HBP and crossed the plate.  Junior Sharonda Mangan went 2-3 with a double and a RBI.  Freshman Kasie Prather went 3-3 and crossed the plate. 

 

In game 2, Mangan took the mound and pitched very well.  The game was tied 3-3 until the bottom of the 6th inning, when IUS put enough runs on the board to run rule the Lady Patriots hitting off not only Mangan but Mulloy and Matteoli making the final score 11-3. 

 

Cheuvront went 2-4.  Junior Casey Crouch went 1-3. Matteoli went 1-3. Junior Mary Kate Hayes went 1-3 and crossed the plate.  Mangan went 1-3 and crossed the plate.  Freshman Emily Bucklew 1-2 with a walk.  Freshman Nicole Mills went 2-2 with a walk, a double, 2 RBI's, and a stolen base.  Prather went 1-1 with a walk. 

 

Head Coach Holly Smith's comments after the games: " I thought that we played well. We put the bat on the ball and had opportunities to score. They are a good hitting team and they hit it where we weren't. We need to find a way to get out of this slump and these youny ladies have a lot of heart, so I know they will find a way out of it."
