Women's Soccer Beat Arch-rival Hiwassee

On Saturday, September 8th, the Lady Patriot soccer team hosted Hiwassee.

After a long delay because of a blown tire, the visiting Hiwassee Tigers arrived at the Barber soccer complex. The game started 30 minutes late, but ended up being an exciting affair. From the first whistle, the Lady Patriots took charge of the game and attacked the Hiwassee goal. SCC held the ball in the Hiwassee half for about 90% of the first half of play. 20 minutes in, the Lady Patriots earned a 30 yard free kick from a Hiwassee foul. Kara Morehead put the shot over the keeper's head for the first score of the game. The rest of the half, the Hiwassee defense held up to the SCC onslaught and the score midway was 1-0 in favor of St. Catharine.

The second half started out just the opposite of the first half. Hiwassee took charge early in trying to even the score. Several minutes in, the Lady Patriots began to turn the tide and possess the ball more in the Tiger half. Several goal scoring opportunities were developed by both teams, but no one was able to finish off a goal. With the score still 1-0 and the time winding down, Hiwassee put all their effort into one last big push to score. Even though Hiwassee threatened several times in the last few minutes, SCC held strong to secure the 1-0 win.

With the win, the Lady Patriots move to 2-2-0 on the season, and surpass the total wins from 2006.
