Womens soccer wins second straight

Saturday, September 13 - The Lady Patriots soccer team hosted Berea in a hot one today. The Patriots didn't start out as quickly as they had a day earlier against Midway, but they still came away with the win nonetheless. After a back and forth battle for much of the first half, Marissa Hibbs hit Ashley Thompkins for the score and a 1-0 SCC lead.

After the half, Sara Funk won the ball and ran to the outside of the Berea defense before crossing the ball to Leah Wright, who put the shot away for a 2-0 SCC lead. Berea would strike back 13 minutes later on a score from Danielle Goldman to close the margin to 2-1. SCC widened the lead again with 20 minutes remaining in the game when Amy Wurfel crossed a ball that was flicked in by Ashley Thompkins. With 15 minutes left, Berea would narrow the lead once again on a shot by Jessica Proffitt.

Both teams fought hard to add to the score, but to no avail. The final stood at SCC 3, Berea 2. These teams will face off again in Berea later this season. St. Catharine will next be in action at home next Friday (September 19) against Spalding University. The Lady Patriots now stand at 3-3 on the season.
