Women Drop a Close One on the Road

Wednesday, October 14 - The SCC Women's Soccer team traveled to Owensboro to play Brescia College in very wet conditions today. Brescia controled much of the tempo throughout, with SCC being somewhat tentative early due to some lineup changes brought on by injury. However, SCC earned several opportunities to score, in the first half, including a penalty kick after Krista Russell was fouled in front of the Brescia goal. Russell took the kick, but Brescia's 'keeper was equal to the task, and made the save.

With the score 0-0, the teams took the field for the second half. The play was much the same, with Brescia mostly controlling the tempo and SCC earning counter-attack opportunities. SCC had several near misses, as did Brescia. Finally, the scoreless tie was broken when Brescia scored off a cross from the right side with 15 minutes to go to take a 1-0 lead. SCC mustered up enough offense to take several more shots, but were unable to score. The final score was Brescia 1 - SCC 0.
