Lady Patriots Drop Two Games in MSC Play

In Mid-South Conference soccer action this week, the St. Catharine College Lady Patriots took on Shawnee State University on the road and Campbellsville University on the home pitch at Barber Soccer Complex.
At Shawnee State, the home team struck first, with a goal by Brittney Brooks off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. Minutes later the Patriots would even the score with Krista Russell taking a corner kick that was headed home by Paola Martinez. However, Shawnee would score four more before the half; two more by Brooks, and one each from Stephanie Roads and Jamie Clevenger to put the game away. A hard fought second half resulted in no more scoring, and the final result was Shawnee State 5 – St. Catharine 1.
Tuesday at Barber Soccer Field, the visiting Campbellsville Tigers defeated St. Catharine 6-0. Brittany Spicer scored two first half goals for Campbellsville as the Tigers led 2-0 at the intermission. Then, in a 14 minute span in the second half Campbellsville added four more goals for the final score. Cassie Yanneli had two of those goals while Audra Hockenberger scored the other two. The Patriots were able to get five shots on goal but none found the net as goalkeepers Brandie Hagerman and Erin Grimsley combined for the Campbellsville shutout.

The win brought Campbellsville to a 5-4 overall record and a 2-1 slate in the MSC. The Patriots are 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
