Soccer Patriots Swept At Georgetown

Thursday, October 7, 2010 - Both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Patriots traveled to Georgetown College Thursday for two Mid-South Conference matches against the Tigers. The Women’s match kicked off at 6pm while the Men played the night cap at 8pm. Both teams returned with setbacks as the women lost 4-0 and the men fell 3-1.
After a hard fought first half, the women trailed just 1-0. Five minutes into the second half the Tigers, 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the MSC, netted a goal to take a 2-0 lead. They scored again at the 60 minute mark and made the score 4-0 with 11 minutes to play in the game.
The Patriots, 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, had only two shots on goal in the shutout. Devin Gore had six saves in goal for St. Catharine.
In men’s action, the Tigers (2-9, 1-2) scored with 14 minutes left in the first half and took the 1-0 lead to the locker room. Just three minutes into the second half Georgetown made it 2-0 when Jordan Gregory followed in on an open net after Riley Williams shot hit the crossbar.
Patrick Williams scored on a penalty kick for the Patriots at the 55 minute mark to make the score 2-1 but the Tigers scored on a penalty kick of their own at 82 minutes to complete the scoring. The loss gave the Patriots a 3-7-1 overall mark and a 1-3 conference slate.
Both teams are home Saturday against conference foe West Virginia Tech. The women play at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:00.
