Lady Patriots Lose in MSC Quarters

Saturday, November 6, 2010 - The Lady Patriots Soccer team traveled to Georgetown College today for a Mid South Conference Tournament Quarter-Final match today. The game versus Georgetown is a rematch from the Quarter-Final round last year that the Tigers won 7-1. The game was hard fought from the beginning, with both teams getting their chances throughout the first half. SCC held their own and had several looks at the Georgetown goal. In the 31st minute, Georgetown senior, Chelsea Farley beat a Patriot defender and put away a shot to open the scoring. Neither team would be able to record another score through halftime, and the game went to the break with Georgetown leading 1-0. The second half was much the same, with both teams pressing hard and end to end action in the early going. Slowly, Georgetown's depth began to take it's toll, as Coach Castleman used 10 total substitutions during the game. Fresh legs helped Georgetown to maintain more possession and control as the game wore on. With the score still 1-0 more than three quarters of the way through the game, Georgetown broke through again as Tara Joseph got open and scored from just inside the top of the box. St. Catharine continued to battle hard, but Georgetown was able to capitalize on several mistakes down the stretch, and Georgetown advanced with a 5-0 win. The loss ends St. Catharine's season with an overall record of 8-10-0.
