Patriots split conference doubleheader with Campbellsville

Men win, women lose

            Saturday afternoon in Lourdes Hall on the campus of St. Catharine College the Patriot basketball teams split conference games against Campbellsville University.

In the opener the Patriot women dropped a 92-69 decision to the Tigers who are ranked third nationally in the NAIA. In Saturday’s second game the Patriot men, ranked eighth nationally claimed a 77-63 victory over Campbellsville.

            The Patriot women (8-11, 3-4) were led by Danielle Brown’s 22 points. Sa’de Mullins added 14 points.

            Campbellsville (14-2, 7-0), ranked third nationally, were led by All-American forward Whitney Ballinger who had 28 points and eight rebounds. Megan Isaacs added 16 points.

            The Tigers outrebounded the Patriots 47-22 and shot 52 percent from the field. St. Catharine shot 42 percent.

            The Patriot men (12-3, 6-1) trailed 37-34 at halftime but scored the first seven points after intermission and never trailed again, leading by as many as 18 points in the second half. Xavier Keeling paced the Patriots with 16 points. Kashiff Carr added 15 and Terrance Withers had 11.

            Patriot center Troy Lambert grabbed nine rebounds to lead St. Catharine to a 35-32 edge on the boards.

            St. Catharine returns to Mid-South Conference action Thursday with a women’s/men’s doubleheader at the University of the Cumberlands.
