Patriots split conference doubleheader

Women win, men upset against West Virginia Tech

              In Mid-South Conference basketball action Thursday night at St. Catharine College, the Patriots were able to gain a split against the visiting West Virginia Tech Bears. In the women’s game, Lena Bramblett’s team downed the Bears 74-64. In the men’s contest the Patriots of J.T. Burton fell 100-92 in overtime. 


            The Patriot women took a 37-31 halftime lead led by Courtney Milam’s 12 points. They were led in scoring for the game by Sa’de Mullins who finished with 21 points. She was joined in double figures by Milam with 17 points and Danielle Brown with 10 points.

            The win lifted the Patriots overall record to 9-15 and a 4-8 conference mark. West Virginia Tech fell to 4-17 overall and 1-10 in the conference.

            The St. Catharine men faced a battle against the Bears in the evening’s second game. After the score was tied 44-44 at halftime, they went to overtime with the score tied 82-82. The Bears then scored the first eight points of overtime and never trailed in the extra period.

            Kashiff Carr led the Patriots with 34 points. Ervin Williams added 20 and Antoine Watson had 19.

            Josh Proctor paced the Bears with 27 points.

            The loss left the Patriots at 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-South Conference. West Virginia Tech is 10-11 and 5-6 in the conference.

            The Patriots are at home for another conference doubleheader Saturday against the University of Rio Grande. The women’s game starts at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:00.
