Baseball Opens Season With Sweep Of Lancers

The Patriots opened the 2009 campaign in convincing fashion with a home sweep of Grace College by the scores of 10-0 and 8-0. These are the first wins for SCC Baseball as a four-year college and as an NAIA program.

In game one, the Patriots (2-0) scored 10 runs on 7 hits in the five inning affair. Junior Travis Adams went the distance allowing just 3 hits and striking out 3 in the complete game performance. At the plate, juniors Kaleb Henry and Brian Jones each went 2-3 a scored a run. Henry added 2 RBI. Sophomore Jared Yates had a 2-3 day with 2 RBI and a double. Junior, Patrick Jones was 1-2 with an RBI and 2 runs.

In the second game, SCC pounded out 14 hits ,scoring 8 runs in the shut out win. Junior Nick Holmes tossed 5 innings, striking out 7 and allowing only 3 runners. At the plate, sophomore Ryan Mangione went 4-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Junior Patrick Jones was 1-2 with a solo homer in the first. Junior, Brian Jones was 3-4 with a double, 2 runs and an RBI.

Weather permitting, the Patriots and Lancers will knock heads again tomorrow with a single game starting at 10:30. The game was previously to begin at 12:00 and was a scheduled DH. Both squads played a DH today to try and beat the forcast for Saturday.
