Patriot men clinch second place with win over Raiders

Women face play-in game after loss to Lindsey Wilson

       In the final regular season basketball game of the season played Saturday at St. Catharine College, the visiting Lindsey Wilson Raiders won the women’s game with a 76-54 decision over the Patriots. In the men’s game that followed, St. Catharine clinched second place in the Mid-South Conference with a 96-76 win over the Raiders.

       The Patriot women, now 11-19 overall and 6-12 in the conference finished eighth in the regular season. That will put them in a play-in game at home Monday against the University of Virginia-Wise. The winner of that game will go to Frankfort next week for the eight team Mid-South Conference tournament.

        In Saturday’s game Lindsey Wilson took a 41-33 halftime lead and then held the Patriots to one field goal in the first eight minutes of the second half as they built a 22 point lead. Ashley Rainey paced the Raiders with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Victoria Krell added 16 points and 10 boards in the winning effort. Lindsey Wilson to 22 improved to 22-7 overall and 13-5 in the MSC.

        Danielle Brown led three Patriots in double figures with 14 points. Carol Ruiz-Lopez and Reena Haliburton had 12 and 10 points respectively.

       The Patriot men placed four players in double figures led by Kashiff Carr’s 29 points. Antoine Watson had 25 while Xavier Keeling and Ervin Williams each had 13 points. The Patriots enjoyed their best shooting game of the season with 69 percent from the field in the 20 point win. They outrebounded the Raiders 43-27 with Watson leading the way with 10 boards.

       The Patriots will take a 20-7 overall and a 14-4 conference mark into the MSC tournament. Lindsey Wilson fell to 19-10 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
