Lady Pats Pull Off An Exciting Sweep

The Lady Patriots battled through an exciting doubleheader Sunday afternoon against visiting Oakland City University.

In game one the Lady Pats quickly fell behind the Lady Oaks 2-6 in the second inning. Oakland City was able to stretch out their lead by adding another six runs, leaving SCC behind 4-11 going into the bottom of the seventh. With the help of their bats, the Pats put up six hits and seven runs to tie the game 11-11. Included in those six hits was a 2 run homerun by Justine Paddock (Louisville, KY) and a 3 run homerun by centerfielder Kasie Prather (Lancaster, KY). Going into an international tie-breaker, Oakland City bunted over the runner at second for the first out and then a hit to leftfield scored a run to put them up by one. A fly-out and a strikeout ended the inning for the Oaks. Coming out with speed on second from sophomore Hagan Goldey (Lancaster, KY) and power at the plate by Paddock, the Patriots were in a great position. A walk and a strikeout brought sophomore Chelcie Rein (Louisville, KY) to the plate with one out. With a count of 1 ball and 2 strikes, Rein hit a rocket that bounced off of the shortstops glove, rolling into leftfield and scoring two runs to give the Lady Patriots the win.

Coming off of a great comeback, in game two, Oakland City was no match for the Lady Patriots who came out swinging to take the win 18-2 in five innings. Pitcher, Ashley Cardenas (Santa Ana, CA) threw a four inning shutout until freshman Taylor Davidson (Burkesville, KY) came to the mound to finish the game for the Pats.

On the day, Prather went 7-for-9 with 2 doubles, a three run homerun, and 4 RBIs. Paddock went 6-for-8 with a double, a two run homerun, and 11 RBIs. Rein added a homerun and 6 RBIs, while freshman Taylor Steff (Louisville, KY) added a three run homerun and 7 RBIs.
