Emily Caras Named Athlete of the Year

Two Years in a Row for Women's Soccer

Friday, April 15, 2011 - The St. Catharine College Awards ceremony was held in the Spalding Student Events Center Friday evening. Among the many awards given out were Male and Female Athlete of the Year. Emily Caras, who plays on the Soccer Team, the Basketball Team, and the Softball Team was named Female Athlete of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year.

Emily, a native of Moline, Illinois, spent her first two years at Blackhawk Community College before transferring to St. Catharine College to play Women's Basketball in the Fall of 2009. After the season ended, she inquired of Women's Soccer Coach, Paul Patton about the possibility of playing soccer as well. "After two or three practices it was plain to see that she was a solid player and that we needed Emily on the team." stated Coach Patton. The story was much the same with Softball, and during the 2010-2011 school year, Emily exhausted her Basketball eligibility and played her first collegiate seasons of Soccer and Softball.

Emily was named Captain of the Soccer Team in 2010 and received accolades as team Outstanding Attacker and Honorable Mention All Mid-South Conference.  In addition to that, Emily set several benchmarks this year.  She tied the mark set in 2009 by Krista Russell for most goals scored in a season with 16 (Russell scored 21 on the season to reclaim the record).  She was second for most assists in a season with 10 and second for most points in a season with 42 (16 goals and 10 assists).  She is tied for second for most goals in a game with 3 against Ohio Christian University.  She is first for assists in a game with 3 against Johnson Bible College and 3 against Midway College.  After just one stellar season, Emily is now second in career goals (16), second in career assists (10), and second in career points (42).

Currently, Emily is planning to return to St. Catharine next year to complete her degree and use her last year of eligibility in both Soccer and Softball.
