#8 Bulldogs Take a Bite Out of the Patriots

The #8 team in NAIA, Union College (38-8), scored four runs in the seventh inning and held on for a 15-13 win against the Patriots (28-24-1).  SC scored 10 unanswered runs to knot the game at 11-11 before the Bulldog rally.  The Patriots scored 2 runs in the ninth and had the go-ahead run at the plate when the game ended.

Alan Stoupa (McLean, VA) led the Patriots with a 3-3 day and reached base in every plate appearance.  Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) had a 2-3 day and reached base 4 times.  He scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's.  Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) and Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) both had two hits and doubled.  Both scored 2 runs and Hernandez added 2 RBI's.  Ryan Mangione (Lexington, KY) added a double and 3 RBI's and Luis Zeledon (Los Angeles, CA) tripled and had a sac fly RBI and scored a run.  Every Patriot in the lineup had a hit in the 14 hit attack.

The Patriots used eight arms in the mid-week match-up.  Cory Klinger (Rushsylvania, OH) suffered the loss, allowing 2 runs in a inning plus of work.  Anthony Thorn (Elizabethtown, KY and Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY) were the only arms to post run free innings.

The Patriots play this weekend at the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, OH for the opening round of the MSC tournament.  The winner of this best of three series will advance to the final six at Campbellsville University the following weekend.
