Former Patriot Reaches out to South African Football Community

Heil Makes Friends Through Soccer

Former Patriot Soccer player, Jacob Heil made some new friends while visiting South Africa recently.

Heil, who played for St. Catharine College Women's Soccer Coach Paul Patton in 2008 and 2009 while Patton was coaching both the Patriot Men and Women, used a mutual love of the "Beautiful Game" to meet with and learn about youth soccer players and programs in and around Cape Town.

Jacob connected with Ubuntu Football Academy, co-founded by Casey Prince, a former player for Barton College here in the US.  Ubuntu is located in the township of Oceanside, SA.  Jacob had the opportunity to meet with players and coaches from their U13 squad, Fish Hoek A.F.C.  He also met co-founder Michael Jenkins and Treswell Overmeyer who is currently a PSL player.

They've envisioned and launched a training academy to offer vulnerable South African boys from the townships (i.e. slums) a chance at high-level coaching, long-term relationships, and one-on-one discipleship. During Jacob's time in Cape Town, they narrowly lost a match to Ajax CT only to WIN the tournament!

Proof once again that Soccer crosses ethnic, cultural, language, and national borders worldwide.
