Patriots Win Final Warmup Match 3-0

On Sunday the Patriots traveled to Owensboro, Ky to face NCAA II school Kentucky Wesleyan and left with a 3-0 win.

The victory came after an entertaining and hard fought game by two competitive squads. The men's soccer team finished their preseason without allowing a goal in either match and outscoring their opponents 10-0. Sunday's game featured great attacking opportunities, hard tackles, a plethora of yellow cards and even a red card. Coach Wolz's squad showed maturity and patience in battling through a physical battle against a determined and skillful KWC team. The scoring started once again from a defender as freshman Jeffrey Warren (Ontario, Canada) cleaned up after a free kick and placed the ball past the keeper. The rest of the half was filled with yellow card after yellow card, one of those became a red as a KWC defender tackled Ashley Woods on his way to goal. Since it was a preseason match the coach's agreed to replace the carded player and the game continued full strength.

"All of the cards really took away from the talent of both teams. It took the game out of the player's hands and neither team was allowed to play," Coach Wolz said after the game.

The second half was more entertaining as the referee let the team's play and with 12 minutes to go Ashley Woods (Manchester, England) scored his third goal of the preseason with the assist from Anthony Steele (Kent, England). A couple minutes later junior striker Sam Kpoh (Louisville, Ky) was taken down in the box awarding the Patriots a penalty kick. Austin Kazcanowski (Canton, Michigan) stepped up and slid the ball past the keeper for the 3-0 win.

"I'm very excited about this team right now. I was concerned about our back line and having 4 players that have never played together but they have been spectacular this preseason. Our fans and friends will really enjoy watching this team play," Coach Wolz said.

The men's soccer team travels to Asbury College on Wednesday for their first regular season match. You can follow them on their group Facebook page and they will play their first home match on Saturday at Nelson County HS on Saturday.
