Women down Eagles in volleyball

It wasn’t as easy as the first time the Patriots played Midway College when they beat the Eagles in straight sets. But Adam Stevenson’s patriots still got the job done on the road Tuesday with a 3-1 victory.

“It was ugly but it is a win,” said Stevenson whose team improved to 19-4.

The Patriots took the first set 25-21 and won the second 25-18. But Midway, 4-12, edged the Patriots 25-23 in the third set before St. Catharine closed out the match with a 25-19 fourth set victory.

Allie Southard paced the Patriots at the net with 14 kills as she hit a team-leading .524. Porsha Ellison added eight kills and Cat Hall had seven.

The Patriots are on the road at West Virginia Tech on Friday, at Pikeville on Saturday and Alice Lloyd on Sunday.
