Patriot Baseball Takes MSC Series With LWC

The St. Catharine College Patriots (26-9, 7-5) won the weekend series with MSC foe Lindsey Wilson College (10-16, 4-9) by sweeping the Blue Raiders on Friday and spliting the DH on Saturday. SCC won 4-2, 5-4 Friday and lost 2-6 in game one Saturday and blasted LWC 11-1 in the series clinching game two Saturday afternoon. The series win puts the Patriots into second place in the MSC standings with first place Campbellsville University coming to town this weekend.

Game 1

Travis Adams (7-1) got back on track with a complete game outing in the 4-2 Patriot win. Adams surrendered 2 unearned runs on 6 hits while punching out 6 Blue Raiders. Brians Jones had a 2 RBI double and Patrick Jones doubled in one as well. Shane Young had a 2-3 day with a double. The Patriots tallied 5 hits in the game.

Game 2

The Patriots were down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth and rallied to plate 5 runs in route to the 5-4 win. The big hit in the inning was a bases loaded triple past a diving centerfielder by Patrick Jones. Shane Young added an RBI single and Ryan Mangione had a SAC fly for the game winning RBI. Again, the Patriot bats were quiet with SCC only getting 6 total hits. Adam Blair, Josh Landers, TJ Mangione and Brian Jones all had singles. Nick Holmes (4-1) picked up the win in his longest outing of the year. He tossed 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. He tallied 6 K's and worked his way out of several Blue Raider scoring opportunities. Dustin Lewis picked up his second save getting two outs in the seventh with runners at second and third.

Game 3

The LWC Blue Raiders flipped the script on the Patriots and scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Bat Pats 6-2. Brian Jones (3-3) suffered the loss after dominating for 6 innings. He had allowed 2 hits through six before the Blue Raiders scored 5 runs on 4 hits in the seventh. He had 7 K's. At the plate, the Patriots stranded 9 baserunners on only 6 hits in the game. Josh Landers had the only two RBI's on a single in the 2nd inning. Justin Witt, Shane Young, Philip Dean, Jared Yates all had singles and Brian Jones doubled.

Game 4

In the series clincher, the Patriot bats awoke and exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits. Patrick Jones doubled and homered for a 5 RBI game. Justin Witt went 3-4 with a run and Chris Smith added a 2-3 game with 2 RBI's and 2 runs. Shane Young was 2-3 with a triple, an RBI and scored 2. Jared Yates had 2 RBI's and Josh Landers was 1-2 with 2 runs and an RBI. Tim Paxton (2-2) tossed the complete game, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. He tallied 4 K's.

The Patriots return to action Tuesday on the road at Indiana University Southeast and host #7 Union College on Wednesday. Friday, SCC will host #8 Campbellsville University in MSC action.
