Baseball Holds on For Win at Spalding

The St. Catharine College Patriots (27-11) traveled to Spalding University for a USCAA matchup Wednesday night. The game was won by SCC 9-8 in a tense, playoff type atmosphere. The Patriots scored 2 runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-7 tie and had to hold on for the win. Spalding had the tying run at third with one out and the Patriot hurler retired the Golden Eagles three and four hole hitters for the win.

Tim Paxton (3-2) picked up the win in relief of several Patriot arms. Paxton tossed 2.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned. Andy Dietz started, tossing the first two innings and had 4 K's. Adam Gillcrist tossed two innings, allowing 3 runs with 2 K's. Morgan Jones tossed two with no hits and 1 K. Travis Evans pitched a third of an inning giving up 3 hits and 3 runs, 1 earned. For the game, the SCC staff had 8 K's and allowed no walks.

The Patriots were led by Brian Jones who went 3-5 with a 2-run bomb, double and rbi single. He had 4 RBI's and a run. Josh Landers was the only other Patriot with 2 or more hits. He went 2-4 with a run and a double. Ryan Mangione added a double. On the night the Bat Pats notched 11 hits.

The Patriots return to action Friday in MSC action at West Virginia Tech University. The conference series continues Saturday.
