Patriot golfers open spring season in St. Augustine

            The St. Catharine College men’s golf team opened the 2012 season with a 36-hole tournament at the PGA World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. The 11 team tournament, played Monday and Tuesday, was hosted by Mid-South Conference member Georgetown College.

            The Patriots finished the two day event with a total of 641 (327-314). That was good for 10th place. Five players compete each day with the top four scores counting for the team score. On Monday, Aaron Darby paced the Patriots with a 79. Josh Edwards carded an 81 followed by Todd Bruington (83) and Nick Patterson (84). Adam Nolte shot an 85. Matt Bloom also played in the tournament as an individual and had a two day total of 164 (85-79).

            On Tuesday, Edwards led the way a 76. Nolte had a 77, Patterson a 78 and Darby an 83. Bruington shot an 85.

            The Patriots will play next in a tournament sponsored by Brescia University at My Old Kentucky on March 28th. The St. Catharine women’s team will also compete in that tournament.
