Five St. Catharine College players earned All-American honors at the annual banquet of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association held Monday (May 11) in Hampton, Virginia. Travis Adams, Patrick Jones, Brian Jones and Justin Witt were named to the USCAA All-American First Team and Chris Smith received Academic All-American honors.
Travis Adams - A junior right-hander from Allen County-Scottsville, Adams compiled a record of 7-3 with four complete games and two shutouts. He had 50 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched and opponents batted .228 against him.
Brian Jones - Jones, from Scottsville, Kentucky, led the Mid-South Conference in hitting this season with a .485 average. The third baseman/pitcher led the Patriots with 66 hits including 18 doubles and nine home runs. He shared the team lead with Patrick Jones in RBI's with 46. Jones also won three games on the mound for the Patriots. In 40 innings pitched he had 39 strikeouts.
Patrick Jones - Jones a junior first baseman from Henry Clay High School belted eight homers and tied Patrick Jones in run production with 46 RBI's. He batted .376 with 47 hits and eight homers.
Justin Witt - A junior second baseman from Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Witt led the Patriots in stolen bases with 19 (in 21 attempts). Witt batted .389 with nine doubles and three triples.
Chris Smith - Smith is a junior shortstop from Taylor County High School. Smith battled injuries this season that forced him to miss over one-fourth of the Patriot's games. But it didn't hurt his performance in the classroom where he has earned a GPA of 3.95 through the first two and one-half years of his college career.
