The Patriot Baseball Club was doubled up, 18-9, Tuesday at NCAA DI Morehead Sate University. The loss drops the Pat's to 27-16 on the season and gives them a three game losing streak.
Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) led the way for St. Catharine, going 3-5 with a homerun, 2 runs scored and driving in 3. Marcus Brown (Louisville, KY) went 1-5 with a 2-run homer and Joey Xavier (Selma, CA) and Cody Miller (Yuba City, CA) each notched a RBI. The Bat Pat's tallied 9 hits.
CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) started on the mound and lasted .2 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 earned in the first inning. The Patriots came from behind and led 6-5 going into the bottom of the 5th. Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY) tossed 3.1 innings and kept the Pat's alive - allowing 0 runs on 0 hits. An 8 run 5th inning by Morehead opened the game up, as the Patriot arms (which were 3) allowed 4 hits and walked or hit 7 Eagles. Both clubs tallied runs in the 6th and 7th innings and the Eagles scored 3 (1 earned) off Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) in the 8th.
The Patriots are now 1-1 against NCAA DI teams and the OVC. They beat Southeast Missouri State University in 2009, their first year as a NAIA member. They play at Campbellsville University this weekend in a MSC matchup. They play a single game on Friday at 6:00 and play a DH on Saturday starting at 3:30.
