Blake Jones, head coach of track and cross country at St. Catharine College, has made a habit of winning road races in the 18 months he has lived here. The most recent victory for the 29 year old came June 16th in Bardstown at the Medica Run for the Health of It 5K.
Jones easily outdistanced the field of 500 runners as he blistered the course in 16:05, three minutes and 21 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Raffo Wimsett of Bardstown. It was the sixth race Jones has won since moving to Springfield in January of 2011. But it wasn’t his most gratifying.
“I really should be running under 16 minutes,” said Jones. “But just seconds before the race started a downpour started and it lasted the whole race. But overall it was a good race, well organized and a good turnout.”
St. Catharine College was well represented in the race. Head athletic trainer Justin Farr finished in 22:45 which was seventh in the 25-29 age group and Roger Marcum, Executive Vice President at St. Catharine, finished fourth in his age division
