The Patriot Women's Soccer team traveled to Asbury University for what promised to be tough match on Saturday night for the first scrimmage of the 2012 season.
In a match that proved to be much more like a mid-season contest, Asbury and St. Catharine would fight down to the final whistle. St. Catharine struck first with pressure on the Asbury goal and scored off a shot from Kelsey Pendleton that was deflected past the Goalkeeper by an Asbury defender for a 1-0 halftime lead.
Asbury would come back with a flurry in the second half with two scores off corner kicks in a 7 minute span. The Patriots, however, weren't done. Fighting right down to the end, the Patriots had several shots in the final minutes including a shot just over the bar by Chelsey Landrum and a shot that crashed off the crossbar by Sara Herbert. Despite the final push, the Patriots were unable to tie up the game and fell 2-1.
