In the home opener of the 2012 soccer season, the St. Catharine College women scored early and often in beating Midway College on Thursday. The Patriots notched a 7-0 win to improve their record to 1-1-1.
Adrienne Bishop opened the scoring just three minutes into the game with a free kick from 45 yards out that floated to the top of the net over the outstretched arms of the Eagles' goalkeeper. Sarah Castillo added the second goal in the 3rd minute off an assist from Krista Russell and Sara Herbert punched one in from 15 yards out in the final minute of the half to make the score 3-0.
Seven different players scored for the Patriots as they dominated play throughout. Paige long made the score 4-0 three minutes into the second half. Paola Martinez, off a Krista Ryker assist, made the score 5-0 and Kelsey Pendleton and Russell scored a goal each in the final 14 minutes. The patriots had 22 shots on goal while Midway, 0-1-1, had three shots on frame, each saved by Maggie Grieser who posted the shutout.
The Patriots next game is Tuesday when they travel to Louisville to take on Spalding University.
