The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders came to Barber Soccer Field Tuesday with a number three national ranking and a record of 3-2-1. And they left with that lofty ranking intact, but not without a struggle in the game that was a Mid-South Conference opener for both teams.
For the first 30 minutes of the game Paul Patton’s squad held the Blue Raiders scoreless. But Mia Persson’s goal gave Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead en route to a 3-0 win over the Patriots who fell to 2-2-2 and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The Blue Raiders added a goal by Cecilia Ekstrand in the 65th minute and completed the scoring just two minutes later when Elizabet Madjarac scored.
Patriot goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson had six saves for the game while the Blue Raiders’ goalkeeper was basically untested as the Patriots were only able to get off two shots, just one on goal.
The Patriot women are back at barber Soccer Field on Saturday for another MSC game when Shawnee State visits for a 2:00 kick-off.
