The St. Catharine College Patriots (6-4) lost their first home game of the year in extra innings to the 19th ranked Cumberland University Bulldogs 5-3. The Bulldogs tied the game in the eighth inning with a two out rally and plated three runs in the top of the tenth to take a 5-2 lead. The Patriots answered with a run in the bottom of the tenth and grounded into a game ending double play with two runners on.
The Patriots tossed seven guys on the day. Brad Krohman (0-1) suffered the loss, he allowed 3 runs on four hits in 1 plus innings of work. Travis Adams, Nick Holmes and Tim Paxton all pitched 2 innings each. Adams allowed a run on two hits and had 3 K's. Holmes allowed two base runners and had a K and Paxton gave up a run on two hits and had a K. Starter Jeff Strong pitched a perfect 1st frame and Lee Thompson tossed a scoreless 4th. Adam Gillcrist relieved Krohman and threw a solid inning.
At the plate, the Patriots were led by Adam Blair, who went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Justin Witt also went 2-4 with a double, SB and a run. Brian Jones added a 2 hit day and doubled, while Kaleb Henry added an RBI double for his only hit. Tyler Mischel went 2-4 with an RBI. The Patriots tallied 10 hits on the afternoon.
The Patriots hit the road for a makeup game Wednesday at Trevecca University in Nashville. The Trojans are receiving votes for the top 25 poll. Gametime is at 3:00 EST.
