PATRIOT WOMEN EDGE BLUEFIELD 1-0

At Bluefield on Saturday the Patriots got the game’s only goal with 38 seconds left in the first half.

Kelsey Pendleton sent a cross from the corner toward the goal that Paige Long headed off the crossbar. Sarah Castillo was there to clean up the rebound for a 1-0 lead. SC goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson recorded the shutout.

“We played strong defense and found a way to score,” said Patriot Coach Paul Patton. “They had chances in the second half. One good chance in the last minute with a corner kick but the cross sailed out of bounds.”

The SC victory allowed the Patriots to move into third place in the Mid-South Conference. They now stand at 5-2, 8-3-2 overall, which puts them one-half game ahead of fourth place Campbellsville and one-half game behind Cumberland University. The Patriot women will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee on Thursday to take on Cumberland University with a chance to take move into a tie for second place.
