The Patriot men made the long trek Saturday to Bluefield, Virginia to take on the Rams. And for Tim Wolz’s team the trip home must have seemed even longer after the Patriots dropped a 1-0 decision.
The loss dropped St. Catharine to 2-5 in the Mid-South Conference and 6-9 overall. They are in seventh place, one-half game ahead of Georgetown and one-half game behind sixth place Shawnee State.
The Patriots will play a pivotal MSC game Thursday in Lebanon, Tennessee against Cumberland University. The Bulldogs hold a 1-5 conference mark and a 3-8-1 overall record.
The only goal of Saturday’s game came in the 22nd minute when Erik Albarran scored for the homestanding Rams (7-7, 3-3). St. Catharine had many chances in both halves but never could get on the scoreboard.
“We had four shots that hit the post,” said Wolz. “But overall we didn’t play well at all. Our defense kept us in it as usual but we had no teamwork on offense. We had a good game plan but didn’t execute it well at all.”
