The St. Catharine men’s cross country team recently ran in the Greater Louisville Classic and the Wilmington College (Ohio) Invitational. The Patriots did not send a full team to Louisville but at Wilmington (October 12) they sent seven runners and finished 30th in the 32 team field.
Austin Middleton, a freshman from England, set a new school record on the 8K course at Wilmington with a time of 30:00.3. That bettered Troy Mattingly’s previous record of 30:08. Mattingly, still hampered with a leg injury, ran a 32:48 at Wilmington. Ed Lucey ran 32:02, a personal best. Rounding out the top five for the Patriots were Austin Spees (33:47) and Andre Jacomini (36:25).
At Louisville, on September 29, all Patriot runners ran a personal best except for Mattingly. Middleton finished in 30:49, Spees in 32:47, Mattingly in 32:28 and Lucey in 32:58.
The Patriots’ next meet is October 20th when they travel to Berea for the Southeastern Classic.
