PATRIOTS MAKE IT FIVE STRAIGHT WITH WIN OVER RIO GRANDE

Saturday afforded the Patriots another chance to defeat a team they haven’t beaten in Mid-South Conference play. And they were able to do so in easy fashion with an 87-65 decision over the RedStorm.

“It gave us an opportunity to get players in that haven’t had a lot of minutes and get them valuable game experience,” said Bramblett. “But have you ever seen a game with so many fouls?”

No one in attendance could remember more fouls called in a game. The two teams combined to shoot 87 free throws as 59 fouls were called. The visitors were 26-41 at the line while the Patriots were 37-46.

St. Catharine raced to a 16-2 lead to start the game and was never challenged by the RedStorm who fell to 5-12 overall and 0-9 in the MSC. The Patriots built a 52-28 lead at the break and led by as many 36 points in the second half.

Every player on the Patriot’s roster entered the scoring column led by Reilly Poirier who had 16 points. Janae Howard and Rianne Hofstraat each scored 15 and Stacie Shrout added 10.

The Patriots now are in a tie for third place in the MSC with Georgetown with a 5-3 conference mark. They will take their 11-4 overall record on the road with a game Thursday at Pikeville ( 5-10, 2-6) and one at UVA-Wise (5-12, 2-6) on Saturday.
