It was cold, blustery and not an ideal day for baseball. But the St. Catharine College nine left the diamond with a warm feeling after a 10-0 win Tuesday over the visiting Kentucky State Thoroughbreds.
Three SC hurlers combined for the shutout against Kentucky State who fell to 1-4 with the loss. Starter Bruce Tolliver (Whittier, Calif.) allowed two hits and fanned five in his three innings of work. Cory Klinger (Rushsylvania, Ohio) and Matt Wagner (Brooks, Ky.) each tossed two innings without allowing a hit. Klinger struck out four and Wagner had two K’s.
Eight different Bat Pats had one RBI as St. Catharine collected 10 hits. Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, Ky.) and KC Mejia (Vail, Ariz.) had two hits each. Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, Calif.) and Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, Calif.) each scored two runs. Joel Cooper (Windsor, Ont.) had the game’s only extra base hit with a fifth inning double.
The Bat Pats, who evened their record at 6-6, continue their homestand Friday with a single game against Huntington University starting at 2:30.
