The St. Catharine College golf teams didn’t have to travel far for the first tournament of the year as Brescia University hosted the event at My Old Kentucky Home Golf Course in nearby Bardstown. And the Brescia Bearcats’ men’s team, whose campus is in Owensboro, acted like it was their home course as they topped the two other teams in the field.
Brescia’s 307 beat St. Catharine by four strokes as the Patriots carded a 311 total. IU-East was third with a 320 total. Nick Patterson and Ronnie Twigg shot 75 and 77 respectively and both were named to the All-Tournament team. Michael Hardin shot a 79 and Matt Bloom an 80 to round out the St. Catharine scoring.
The Patriots women were not eligible for the team competition as a withdraw left them with only three players. Jordan Graham turned in an 89 while Jessica Shelton had a 90 and Drew Ison a 112.
Aquinas won the women’s tournament with a 329 total and Brescia was second with a 367.
The next tournament for each team will be the Mid-South Conference tournament at Crooked Creek Golf Course in London, Ky. The women’s tournament will be there March 25-26 and the men will play on April 1-2.
