The Patriots went on the road Wednesday and swept a double header from Indiana University Southeast, 4-1 and 6-5. The Pats had to come from behind in both contests and run their record to 29-11 overall.
Ryan Rizzi picked up the win the opener, tossing 5 innings - allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Cody Alvey tossed a perfect 6th inning and Andrew Nelson picked up a save by pitching the seventh. The Bat Pats scored all the runs they needed in the third inning, touching up the Grenadiers starter for four runs on 3 hits. The big hit of the inning was a 2 RBI single by Adrian Garcia. Carlos Hernandez went 2-4 with a double and a run. Tyler Mischel added a RBI single and scored a run. Joey Xavier added a 2 hit game.
In the night cap, the Patriots scored a unearned run in the top of the 7th to break a 5-5 tie on a Eric Standafer bases loaded double play. Matt Wagner came in a picked up his third save of the year, making Cory Klinger the winner. Trenton Claunch started and pitched 5 innings. He allowed 5 runs, 2 earned on 6 hits. CJ Engelstad went 2-3 in the game and scored 2 while knocking in 1. Hernandez was on base 3 times and scored 3 runs and Garcia went 1-2 with a RBI.
The Patriots have a big MSC weekend series at Lindsey Wilson College starting on Friday at 5:00 and will continue on Saturday at 3:00.
