The Patriots (30-13, 8-7 MSC) split a road DH at #25 Lindsey Wilson College Saturday, losing 6-3 and winning 8-1. The win gave the Pats their 11th straight year with 30 or more wins and 1st win against a ranked opponent on the season.
In the opener, the Bat Pats banged out 11 hits, but stranded 7 runners in the 6-3 loss. The Pats led after 2 innings, but starter Dylan Shoffner surrended 4 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the third, which was enough for the Blue Raiders. Shoffner allowed 2 more runs in the 4th and suffered his second loss on the season. He tossed 6 innings and scattered 12 hits and tallied 2 K's. Trenton Claunch tossed the final 2 innings, allowing just a hit. At the plate, Tyler Mischel went 2-4 with 2 RBI's. KC Mejia added a 2-4 game with a RBI and Carlos Hernandez had 2 base knocks and a run. CJ Engelstad went 1-3 with 2 runs.
In the nightcap, Bruce Tolliver picked up the win allowing just a run on 4 hits and 8 K's. Trenton Claunch again provided shutout relief, tossing 2.1 innings with 2 K's and surrendering just 2 hits. Eight Patriots tallied base knocks in the contest, led by Engelstad who went 2-3 with 3 runs. He also stole 3 bags including home. Mejia added a 2-3 game with a RBI and 2 runs and Josh Whitmer doubled in his 2-4 night and added a RBI. The Bat Pats tallied 11 base knocks in the game.
SC is back in action this week when they host Mid-Continent University in a DH on Tuesday. They also welcome Union College on Wednesday.
