TEAM DAVIS WINS SCC BASEBALL FALL WORLD SERIES

Team Davis regrouped after their stunning defeat in game 4 and outlasted Team Allen, 9-6 to win the St. Catharine College Fall World Series.  Junior outfielder Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) was named tournament MVP after going 3-3 with a double and 2 triples in the championship game.  He added 4 RBI's and scored 2 runs in the final game.

 

Team Allen jumped out to a 4-0 lead highlighted by a 3-run blast by Tyler Mischel (St. Louis, MO).  Luis Zeledon (West Corina, CA) knocked in Joe Joe Simms (Springfield, KY) with a single as well.  Team Davis chipped into the lead after a Hernandez triple, Patrick Jones (Lexington, KY) scored him with a groundout.  A Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) double started the second inning for Team Davis, as they took the lead for good with a 4 run inning.  Brian Beavin (Frankfort, KY) knocked in Calloway and Hernandez doubled home Doug Crawford (Louisville, KY).  Jones singled home Beavin and Hernandez for a 5-4 lead.

 

Team Davis would add to the lead off reliver Scott Clemmons (Shelbyville, KY) with a 3 run 5th.  Hernandez tripled home Gregg Tingle (Shelbyville, KY), Calloway, who doubled and Crawford.  Team Allen cut into the lead in the 6th when Seth Dunn (Elizabethtown, KY) doubled and scored on a Ryan Mangione (Lexington, KY) single.  Simms singled home Mangione to trim the lead to 9-6 and Team Allen left 3 runners on base over the next two innings.

 

Team Allen starter CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) suffered the loss.  Taylor Boone (Shelbyville, KY) came in for starter Bryan Doyle (St. Louis, MO) and tossed 4 plus innings to earn the win.  He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits.  Chase Williams (Glasgow, KY) picked up the save in his 3rd appearance of the series.

 

Team Allen will put on a talent show for the student body after falling in a great series.  The talent show will be announced at a later date.
