BAT PATS SIGN FOURTH TRANSFER

The Patriots continue to reach into the west coast and nab quality juco transfers as the Pats pick up another commit from Southwestern College in San Diego, CA.  The 6-1, 250 pound corner infielder Hector Montes has signed his official letter of intent to play for St. Catharine next year.

"We are very excited to sign Montes," stated Patriot assistant Terry Davis.  "He brings much needed presence to the middle of our lineup.  He can play third, first and DH.  He's a big boy and has the ability to drive the ball to all fields and is very athletic for his size.  He may even pitch a little for us, he was a closer in high school - touching low 90's."

Montes led the Jaguars with a .376 average.  He had 50 hits, 10 doubles and 3 round trippers.  Montes knocked in 27 and scored 20, while earning 27 free bases.  He even swipped 3 bags.  Coming out of high school, Hector was a 47th round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2010 MLB draft.

He joins fellow Jags Victor Serna and Agustin Lopez - who both signed earlier in the spring.  He also follows Southwestern alum's Fransisco Gonzalez and Juan Moriel, both wore the Patriot uniform.

Both Montes and Lopez were named 1st Team All Pacific Coast Conference this year.
